RedLeaf said:With the 2 recent loses and the Leafs sliding back into 8th, Burke may have a real issue moving forward.
If he doesn't make a big trade and the Leafs miss the playoffs, there'll be questions as to why he didn't try to improve the team. If he does make a big trade and they don't make it there'll be even more questions.
Tough spot to be in for Burke unless the Leafs can stop the slide soon, and starting winning some games before the deadline.

The "slide" is only 2 games, for Pete's sake.
What I do think, and said in the GDT, is that this is the kind of loss that may tip Burke toward making a trade. Defense was very fundamentally, exposed by a grittier team with a forecheck.

First, the extension to Wilson. He didn't deserve it, and if he hadn't been given it, Burke would have at least given himself the option of replacing him now.
Second, giving (or endorsing the giving of) the C to Phaneuf. Again, he didn't deserve it. And he's done nothing to prove that he will ever be an effective leader.
BB has boxed himself into a corner when he didn't need to. He can't get rid of Wilson, and he can't give the C to someone else (or even consider trying to trade him), w/o having to submit himself to major embarrassment. Which, for all his bluster, he is quite unwilling to do.
Yeah, nothing new here. But still, it needs to be said.

Hitched his wagon to Wilson, said over and over the Leafs are a playoff team and have (x great record I don't know the number) since last Jan when Reimer took over and now the Leafs are in free fall right before the deadline. Does he try to add?, try to sell overpaid vets? What a mess if the Leafs continue to fall and the entire season falls apart.
