Yeah, I'm pleasantly surprised myself. I never thought Marvel would let someone get that dark/violent with one of their properties but they're certainly holding nothing back.

I can't stop. It's a bit like Arrow in its premise and themes, but with the realistic violence found on The Americans.

The pacing, characterization, acting, very judicious use of CGI, and feature film level choreography is bumping this up to one of the best series I've ever seen. That title sequence (by the same guys who did True Detective) and haunting score are stellar as well.

I knew those titles seemed familiar! Did you read that the fight in the apartment hallway in episode 2 was all done in a single take?

Yeah. I was already sold on the show in the first episode, but this scene sealed the deal.

I'm only 3 episodes into Daredevil but for me Marvel just seems so far ahead of DC in terms of movie/TV adaptation that it isn't even a competition.

DC has the better animated stuff, but Marvel is dominating the live-action for sure.

What really impresses me is that Marvel keeps innovating. The second Captain America was essentially a political/spy thriller, Ant Man will be a heist film, Guardians of the Galaxy was a light-hearted space romp and an almost total departure from their usual MO, they're bringing Spidey into the mix, and now they have this 5-year deal with Netflix that is looking like pure gold.

Meanwhile, DC is still trying to figure out what went right with The Dark Knight.

I'm four episodes in. I won't spoil anything, but there's a scene in ep.4 that, ya, well. Somewhat intense.

The Flash and Arrow are both fantastic television as well. And while I know people aren't too happy with the fact that they're doing it backwards, I'm pretty excited to see what DC's movie universe will bring. BvS and Suicide Squad both have a ton of potential.

Stickytape kinda nailed it with his comments about Marvel's Cinematic Universe. They're comic book movies, but the comic book aspect is merely a framework for them to apply to any other genre film. I think credit there has to go to Kevin Feige and Joss Whedon in implementing the unified MCU vision throughout their properties.

Flash and Arrow definitely learned from the mistakes of Smallville's very long run and made those shows more about character(s) than about the powers and abilities. They quickly set the table with episodic villains of the week and laid out clues for the long game that kicks into gear at the volta around episode 6-8. Zack Synder's films have yet to grasp this, looking more for visual set pieces to show off a slow-mo comic frame.

Really lovely ending to Justified tonight.

I just got a chance to catch it and I agree it was very well done. A little on the nose in some places maybe but it was a solid wrap up to a really good show.

I don't like where Arrow is currently going.  I think it would be better if they focused more on the past.

I don't agree. I think if they focus too much on the past, they'll really get to point where it's ridiculous someone he knows didn't run into him during all the time he was off the island. I'm not a huge fan of the current flashback timeline they're using. It's really pushing things.

I don't love the fact that they're basically trying to make him Batman, but, the reality is that he is basically a mashup of Robin Hood and Batman.

True.  I just don't like the Ra's al Ghul thing.  Mainly because they say his name every two minutes in every show.  Almost like they want to make a drinking game from it.  I found that with Mirakuru storyline as well though.

I think they're trying to do way too much with Batman vs Superman. Throwing way too many characters into the mix. Also, if the trailer that came out today is any indication, it's going to be another dark, gritty and joyless DC movie. That's a tone that works really well for Batman - because, really, that's what he is - but Superman is supposed to be more upbeat, as are many of their other properties. Especially the Suicide Squad. If they can't inject some fun into a movie that's essentially headlined by the Joker and Harley Quinn . . .

Honestly I kind of like that DC is taking a completely different approach to superhero movies by being dark and gritty. I mean there's going to be like 8 different superhero movies a year, I want some variety there. And I really like the whole 'should Supes be trusted' idea that BvS seems to be exploring. Definitely a very different take that we haven't seen before (although Captain America 3 could also be looking at something like that).

As for the too many characters/Spiderman-3 syndrome, well we'll have to see exactly how that plays out. It could definitely be a problem, but I feel like all the non-Superman/Batman/Wonder Women characters likely won't have too big of a role in BvS.

Yeah so D'Onofrio is great in this series.
