Heart. Sure in simple terms. Someone who gives a crap.
Someone with character whom stands up in situations.
Not deterred by what others think, or feel about them.
Has a determination to succeed.

I think that applies to Grabo pretty consistently.

True enough, so yes he has the qualifications and perhaps i should have said someone who can throw his weight around, and make a physical impact, and lead by example.
Grabovski the more ya hit em the better he get's, but he's not a guy who can push anyone around.
He's a scorer not a fighter.

To be fair it's not like Gilmour was much of a fighter either.

No Gilmour fought. Check the records. He has enough scars to prove it.
He went to places ugly places on the ice.
I disagree he was a bit of both.

11 regular season fights to his name throughout his entire career. Nik's right - he wasn't much of a fighter.

EDIT: His career fight card includes well known pugilists like Daniel Alfredsson, Joe Sakic and Vincent Damphousse.

Stats....

He was in many a scrum/fight moreso than Grabo.
Ok more Gritty.
Grabo is not as Gritty as Gilmour, but my argument to begin with is their is no player on the Leafs who can throw his weight around and make any impact in a game, or do it consistently.

Yeah, I was going to say that Gilmour's two fights as a Leaf were against a 20 year old Roman Hamrlik and Bob Errey. I don't recall either but something tells me they weren't quite Stan Jonathan-Pierre Bouchard.

Yup. I mean, there's no doubt that Gilmour was an in-your-face type guy who was willing to go into the dirty areas to get things done. And, yeah, he was tough, but, he was tough in a similar way to the way Grabovski is - you knocked him down, and he got back up, dusted himself off and found a way to beat you with hands, not his fists.

Lupul got booed at Wednesday's Jays/Bosox game...

I thought this Roberts tweet last night was pretty funny:

Don (@RealDonCherry @CoachsCornerCBC) think if @MapleLeafs @43_Kadri trained w. me this summer Burke would let him on the big team? #TMLtalk

I'm kind of with Ronco here. Believe me, I'm not calling anyone out on their "heart" or "grit." Maybe they're the wrong words to be used in this case (or at least my case.) I heard some use the word "dig" yesterday in a completely non-sports related way and for some reason, I immediately thought of Ronco's post. With Gilmour, many of his shifts (especially in the playoffs) looked like it was the last shift he was ever going to take. You could just see the guy fighting for every inch. Call it just dumb nostalgic romanticism if you like but I don't recall a top forward since Gilmour (no disrespect to Sundin, or even Roberts intended) who well, went out there with a "war face" and delivered the way Gilmour did. This team needs a leader like that.- Someone who you'd be embarrassed to take single shift off with let alone an entire night. There was a indescribably high blue-collar, lunchbucket appeal to Gilmour's work ethic and that might be why the word "dig" struck a chord with me. I'd like one day to just be able to get behind and be part of that ethic (or spirit) that Gilmour brought to this city.

Great now even Gary Roberts is trolling the Leafs.

He's been trolling them for years, just finally figured out twitter so he doesn't have to wait until radio shows call and bait him with loaded questions.

Depends, is this the Gary Roberts training on physical fitness that's gotten rave reviews or the training he offers in how to be a gossipy high school girl?

Roberts is a bit of a jerk.

Always has been. One of my co-workers used to be loadmaster on the Leaf charters (two year gig.) Says Roberts and Nolan were the two biggest jerks. (FWIW.)
