Haha that was my only pet peeve too, still, like you the FNL homage and general imagery of our current core was great.

What are they apologizing for?

Yeah us fans didn't do anything. The people that fired burke likely would not hire him back either. It wasn't about the team he put together but rather his personality; which was the reason he was canned.

lol not aimed at anyone in particular but plenty of people around here were calling for his head and rejoiced when he was fired. I liked him, for the record. Hell I like anybody that isn't afraid to tell it like it is and doesn't play politician all the time.
Personality be damned, this is a results driven industry. Here are the Leafs poised for their best finish in 7 seasons and the guy that put the team together doesn't even work here lol. Oh Toronto.

Maybe it's a by-product of being old enough to remember when it happened with some degree of regularity but I'm not inclined to lose my mind with gratitude at the prospect of the Leafs being poised to be one of the 16 of 30 NHL teams who will make the NHL playoffs. That the Leafs "best result in 7 years" is that as of now they look to be in that top 53% of all NHL teams is less an accomplishment that needs acknowledgement and more a testament to the failures of JFJ, Fletcher and, yes, Brian Burke over those seven years.
You say it's a results driven industry and, quite frankly, the results Burke got were justification enough for his firing, personality concerns aside.
Deebo said:They are better than just being in the top 53%. At this point, they appear to be a top 10 team in the NHL and have plenty of cap space to improve going forward. I'd say Burke left the Leafs great shape to become a contender.
Nik said:As to the "top 53%" that was more in reference to the idea that the Leafs look poised to have their best finish in 7 years, the dividing line there being the playoffs.

How about top 8 (where they are now)? Is that good enough? What is good enough with the group that Burke assembled for you to say he did a good job?
Or is just that his 3 full seasons here were non-playoff years and that's enough to say he did a bad job?
I'm trying to understand the basis of your evaluation of the job he did.
caveman said:That is a good point. It is not as if Nonis just became a manager this year. Burke used to give him credit for making some of the deals.
