General Leafs Talk

I have followed hime since he has come to the Leafs from Boston. A big center like him is the so called #1 everyone keeps asking for, but I dont see the Leafs as having a #1 line. I think we have and will continue to have 1a-1b. and yes colburne has it in him and yes I am right on this. Like Kadri he needed time. he will play on one of the top two lines next season, and you can hold me to this. I remember how so many people had our system as bare, yet I kept saying how solid it was, and all I got was crap like leafplasma just posted, yet the system keeps sending up the players. trust me I'm not a homer looking through blue leaf googles. I do follow the whole system, and I think I can see when a player has talent after watching the game for over forty yrs. also I am not with the press so I will go off the board and not with statas quo like them. I also think Hamilton will be a keeper.

But you can't learn to spell the guy's name.

I think it's debatable whether Colborne will make the NHL as a regular. I'm hopeful but not certain. To anoint him as a possible #1 center when he wasn't that with the Marlies when Kadri and company were down there seems like quite a stretch as he's been toiling in the AHL for a while - his waiver exemption ends this season.

Since he was acquired, my highest hope for him was as a #2 center and more likely, as a #3 who can use his size, check and score some.

Injurys were his issues this season.

What will Nonis do with Grabo and Bozak in the off season?

http://www.torontosun.com/2013/04/11/leafs-have-to-figure-out-what-to-do-with-their-centremen-in-off-season

My guess is that Grabo is traded, another centre, possibly Stastny is brought in for first line duty, and Bozak is retained for 3rd line duty.

I'm one of Grabovski's biggest fans and think that he should be given the opportunity to be a true no.2 center on the team. Perhaps even given the chance to be the no.1. However, what you've stated above is something I'd go for. I think Stastny's game might be a good fit for Kessel, probably better than Grabovski.

Well here is the problem... We bring some one to play 1st line center. They fail like Connelly. Where is he playing again oh yeah on the Marlies. Bozak is not going to be a third line center. Whether people like it or not, he will be in the top 2 here. Grabovski was the biggest mistake Burke made. he played well for a year and a half and gets 5.5 million. I hope they buy him out in the summer.

There was nothing to take from your post except that, you didn't say anything new. You just re-stated your belief that he will be a number #1 centre then went off on an unrelated tangent.

I would expect a trade for picks or prospects, if he don't pick up the pace. next season if he gets moved I think we promote from within. although I like the Stastny Idea. A move could give them both new life.

Maybe what we will see is Colborne and Stastny battle it out for the top line pivot spot with the loser taking the 2nd spot.  Bozak will sure up the third line with the departure of Grabs.  The boatload of picks and prospects that Grabs will net us will then replenish the Marlies and Connolly should be resigned as a UFA to mentor them.  That leaves Kadri to sit between McLaren and Orr on the 4th line just like he did on Coaches Corner the other night.

Grabovski isn't at practice.

@koshtorontosun: Asked #Leafs staffer whether Grabovski is sick or something else. Told "Randy will address it" when practice over

I'm nervous.

That sounds ominous.  Maybe we're reading too much into it?

Oh probably.  But no game today, no Jays game to freak out about either, so we can freak out about this until Carlyle provides the completely reasonable explanation (maintenance day?).

I'll go ahead an guess it's flu-like symptoms or something like that.

I agree, Carlyle actually said he liked the way Grabovski played last game so I can't see him suddenly being put in the press box and it blows up with him not showing up for practice.  ???
