I think both the Leafs and Sharks lack the killer instinct to progress in the playoffs, or for the Leafs to even make the playoffs.  The Sharks reminded me of the Senators of the early 2000s in that they would dominate during the regular season then disappear during the playoffs.

Disappear in the playoffs?  One of those teams made it within 2 wins of the finals.  Only once did they finish 1st in their division, so not sure they would 'dominate' the regular season.  IIRC they often had brutal injuries in the playoffs too (Sundin comes to mind).  They were a very good team, a contender even, but hardly a sure thing and they hardly disappeared in the playoffs.

seems like you are confusing the sens in the early 2000's and the leafs in the early 2000's.  The leafs of that era played better in the playoffs then they did in the regular season whereas the sens played better in the regular season then the playoffs.

Seems like you're confusing me with 93Forever.

Seems like you're confusing yourself. 93Forever said that the Sharks reminded them of the Senators in the early 2000's, that were great all year but not so much in the playoffs. Especially against the Leafs.

Then you switched that around to the Leafs being a team that were great in the playoffs but didn't do so well in the standings.......back then.......

.................which had nothing to do with the original point.

I'm confused but I don't REALLY care, either.

I am confused as well but you did summarize my sentiments and remove some of the confusion.

Thanks

I heard media reports that the Leafs would have been interested in Todd McCellan has the Sharks fired him, so based on that it sounds like Carlyle is a goner.

I don't think cox is a big insider.  So take that prediction with a grain of salt.

He did break the Shanahan news, so that's something. But yeah that statement is more of a prediction on his part. He's not claiming that it's insider information.

That article basically boils down to "other teams have done it" and some of the excuses other people in the media have been using are gone, so, Cox thinks it will happen this week.

Also, smart and successful teams fire their coach sooner rather than later. So, if the Leafs are going to fire their coach, they should do so now.

Simmons doesn't think he's getting fired, according to his sources, for whatever that's worth.

Simmons also said there are 2 teams that are willing to hire him right away. When he said that, there were also only 2 teams without a coach but still had a GM. So, unless both Nashville and Florida both want Carlyle . . .

Bascially, Simmons likes to say stuff.

I would buy that Cox has sources.  Newfound sources most likely as he is one of the main puppet pieces hired for Sportsnet's NHL coverage.  I can believe that they would leak stuff to him on that basis.

Simmons on the other hand is essential Damien Cox, without the quality writing abilities (not that Cox always writes the way he is capable of) and with no sources.  Simmons just rattles off incendiary pieces.

Cox has also basically admitted that he doesn't have a read on Shanahan/Shanahan's done a good job of keeping things close to the vest, so, if he does have sources, they're lower in the food chain and possibly out of the loop.

Kypreos, while rightfully takes criticism for his on air work, has broken his fair share of Leafs news:

‏@RealKyper

Shanahan in 3 wks and we start hearing talk about potential #Leafs moves. Anywhere from personal behind bench to overhaul with scout' staff

So sounds like he's hearing something's going to happen.  Still, pretty broad.

I'm starting to think maybe they just fire Gordon and/or Cronin and bring in either Oates or Muller to fill one of their roles.
