AHL playoff rosters & the 4 call-up rule

If they are doing this before 3pm they are basically saying they've graduated.

They won't play in the playoffs for the Marlies.

This is your new look Toronto Maple Leafs folks.

I wouldn't say that. If they are playing tonight the Leafs will want them to get a practice in before hand. They could still make a paper transaction to make them eligible for the playoffs and then bring them back.

So essentially, up to practice.  Demoted at 14:59 and recalled at 15:01 and Soshnikov, Nylander and Kapanen are 3 of the 4 non-emergency callups.

That's a good point, the only reason to do this before 3pm is that they want them to practice.

The 4 call-up rule post deadline has been abolished, right?

Given how meaningless the Leafs current season is, there's no way they make those three guys ineligible for a long playoff run.

I wonder if they actually classify some of all of them as emergency call-ups for the time being.

Really though, it's just a clerical transaction though as you said.  They don't have to physically report, correct?

Correct. And I mean even if they did they could probably just walk to Ricoh.

I agree it's unlikely but you may be overestimating how important the organization thinks a Calder Cup would be.

Well, it's either they'd be sitting at home or playing in the AHL playoffs...I'd have to think that playing meaningful hockey would be more important.

Dubas has also spoken very highly of that experience, so it'd be a weird change. If Nylander's not playing in the playoffs though he could be a candidate for Sweden at the World Championships.

Right on Frank. I'm not suggesting a Calder Cup is particularly important, but additional playing experience for those guys is valuable.

And given the competitiveness of pro hockey, I do think taking the best shot at the Calder Cup is quite important to them. If the Leafs were fighting for a playoff spot, then it'd be different of course.

Yeah, I doubt they sandbag Keefe like that, just another thing to think about, Kapanen and Nylander would probably be good candidates for their countries rosters at the Worlds.

Well, or the WC's in Nylander's case as a possibility.

But even then, I don't necessarily know that with everything the Leafs are investing in the physical sciences that you're definitely going to get unanimity that after playing in a 70+ game season that playing another 15-20 games is all that more valuable.

I have to say that I'm glad that Hyman is getting a chance.  He has really played well the last two months.
