One might conjecture that 3rd in blocked shots is a negative -- that it indicates that the other team has possession of the puck in our end a lot and has many opportunities to shoot.

Another possibility is it simply tells you nothing, much like when an announcer tells you a goalie has 35 saves ... Is 35 saves good? Bad?  It really depends on how many additional shots were not saved ....

I think you're probably more right there, though it's a good thing to me in a way considering the Leafs are way down in the shots against per game stat, if they are as you say allowing the opposition time and space they need to get in the way as best they can.

Ferret, you don't have the blue and white decoder ring, sorry man...

Well they are 21st in shots against per game at 31.

However they are 13-8-2 when they get outshot and 6-7-3 when they outshoot their opponent.  They really struggle with goals against in the 2nd period though (2nd worst in the NHL).  19th in the first period for goals against and 9th in the 3rd period.  That to me suggests that maybe the Leafs are a little slow at reacting to changes that the opposition makes coming out of the lockerroom?

Nah, just means that they take more penalties in the 2nd, thus giving up more shorthanded goals.

At this point last year, Leafs were 18-20-4 after 42 games.  Funny enough, Leafs had just won 4 straight at the exact same time of the year (Jan 11) to bring their record up to that.  (Leafs lost 6 of the next 7 after that though..let's hope history doesn't repeat too closely)

First set - excellent
7-2-1

Second set
4-5-1

Third set
5-4-1

Fourth set
4-4-2

Next 10
Detroit W
Buffalo W
@Buffalo
NY Rangers
Ottawa
Minnesota
Montreal
NY Islanders
@NY Islanders
@ Pittsburgh

2-0 to start.  No complaints here.  Let's hope this 5th set of 10 is the best yet.

I like our shot at taking 1/2 of the back to back but I don't think we are going to take both.  Gustavsson should start the game friday vs the sabres seeing as that is the more important game.  Getting the Sabres 10 points back of us would be huge because with how tight the east is a 10 point deficit is almost impossible to climb back from.

The Rangers are a measuring stick vs the elite teams in the east but given how good they are and that it is on the other side of a back to back I'm not as confident we will win that.  Reimer should start vs the Rangers although it would say a lot if Wilson started Gustavsson for both games.

At least we're 2-0 against them this season so far.
